My name is Ramón Pérez and I am a dog mentor. The dogs are my life.

My passion for dogs was inspired by a very special dog – a beagle named «Joyce». She was a free spirit in its truest sense. She was quite a handful however showed a unique charm and amiability but only to a few carefully selected individuals. Madame showed me my weaknesses remorselessly. There were instances in which I was insecure and clueless how to handle certain situations with her. And she mercilessly used to take advantage of those circumstances.

 

The time I spent with her was intense and fascinating. As a matter of fact I still live on that fascination from that period in my life leading to lots of questions such as: What do we actually know about dogs and training them? Or rather: What can we know for certain about these animals and what are merely assumptions, wishful thinking, anthropomorphization? Are we under- or overrating them? I state clearly: both. That insight is the key to my goal: To do the dogs justice. Because I was convinced by my own experience that with the right understanding, sensible training through applying adequate learning theories not only the dog but also the dog owner will grow beyond themself – and this enables true bonding. When I say applying adequate learning theories I mean to take into consideration how can the dog learn something in a manner in which I can support him and guide him to accomplish a goal. I myself am growing and evolving through this ongoing process because I am being taught new things by the dogs every time I work with them.
